Benefits of A Cat Tower
Cat towers actually serve several purposes for our furry pals. A good tower will offer your kitty a nail-care station, napping spot, and jungle gym. If you place it near a window, Fluffy also gets a tanning bed and bird-observation deck. A cat tower will also give your feline overlord a great view of her domain! Plus, it will keep her active by encouraging her to jump and climb.
Choosing A Cat Tower
Keep Fluffy’s age and purrsonality in mind when choosing a cat tower. If you have a kitten, get your frisky furball something that incorporates lots of fun toys. If your kitty is in her senior years, and/or is perhaps a bit pudgy, choose something that will be easy for her to get on and off. If you have a scaredy-cat, pick a tower with enclosed spaces, so your timid pet can hide if she likes.
Refreshing A Cat Tower
Has your furball stopped using her cat tower? There are a few things you can do to make it more appealing for her. First, give it a thorough vacuuming. Or, even better, steam clean it. (You would of course need a steam cleaner with an attachment for this.) If the upholstery is really worn, try recovering it. Even moving the tower may work. Cats are very curious, so this may reawaken Fluffy’s curiosity. Sprinkling catnip around it may also pique your kitty’s interest.
DIY Options
If you are working with a tight budget, or just like to upcycle things, you can make a tower for your kitty. One way to do this is to upcycle an old stepladder or storage rack. Add planks to the shelves to widen them out. This will give Fluffy the furball napping spots she loves. Then, wrap the whole thing in carpet or sisal rope. You can also make one from scratch out of lumber, PVC pipe, or, if you’re really brave, real tree branches.
