Autumn is here! It’s always nice to enjoy fall’s beautiful color and cool breezes after a long, hot summer. As you make your plans for the next few weeks, don’t forget about your canine buddy! Read on as a London, ON vet lists some things to put on your to-do list this autumn.
Get Ready For Winter
That cold weather will be here before you know it! Make sure your pooch has a warm, comfy bed. Your pup may also appreciate a thermal blanket and/or a heated bed. If Fido wears clothes in winter, now is the time to make sure his doggy jackets are clean, in good shape, and still fit well.
Enjoy A Long Walk
Fall’s crisp air, beautiful foliage, and cool temperatures make it a perfect time for taking a walk with your furry buddy. Grab a travel mug of tea or coffee and take Fido to a park. Or explore a new trail with him.
Play
Many of our canine patients spend the majority of winter indoors, curled up in their beds. Indulge Fido with a fun game of Fetch or Frisbee while it’s still nice out.
Dress Up
While you should never put Fido in anything that is tight, hot, itchy, or constricting, you can have some fun with him around Halloween. Check pet stores for cute costumes. Because these are made specifically for dogs, they tend to be both safe and comfortable. Or, just do something minimalistic, like putting a bow tie or bandana on your pet’s collar.
Enjoy A Snack
Why not give Fido a seasonal treat? Mix pureed pumpkin, natural peanut butter, an egg, and whole-wheat flour into a batter. Divide into small servings, or just pour into a brownie pan. Cook at 205 °C for about 20 minutes. Then, share a few with your furry pal. Yum!
Strike A Pose
Fall’s beautiful light and gorgeous foliage makes for great photos. Have a friend snap a few shots of you and your pup.
Relax
Autumn always offers at least a few dreary days. This sort of weather is absolutely perfect for relaxing with a good book or movie, some comfort food, and your furry best friend. Spend some quiet quality time with Fido!
