Cute Ways to Celebrate Cinco de Meow

There’s a fun new kitty holiday coming up. May 5th is Cinco de Meow! You’ve likely heard of Cinco de Mayo, which commemorates the Mexican army’s defeat of French forces at the Battle of Puebla. Now that our feline buddies are getting in on the festivities, this fiesta has gone to the cats! A London, ON vet lists some cute things you and Fluffy can celebrate in this article.

Mexican Food

You don’t want to share things like fajitas or tamales with your kitty. You also definitely don’t want to give her any guacamole: it contains avocados, which are toxic to cats. Anything with garlic and/or onions is also a nope. However, you can give Fluffy some plain, cooked fish or chicken, as long as you remove the skin, bones and fat.

Photo Shoot

Another fun thing you can do is stage a photo shoot with your kitty. You can get some cute props, whether it’s a sombrero or piece or art. Or, turn Fluffy into a ‘purrito’ by letting her snuggle up in some blankets. There’s just no such thing as too many cute cat pictures!

Dinner And A Movie

Mexican food will be on the menu for a lot of folks tonight. After dinner, why not wind down with a fun movie that fits the Cinco de Meow theme? There are plenty of good ones to choose from. Any Western will do, as will anything set in Mexico and/or anything with cats. Our top pick? You can’t go wrong with Puss In Boots, Shrek’s feline buddy.

Adoption

Many shelters are getting in on this cute kitty holiday and offering special rates and/or hosting adoption fiestas. We’re always happy to see homeless cats getting adopted into loving homes! If you’re ready to bring a new furball into your life, consider going to a shelter.

Spread The Word

There are already some really cute kitty memes for Cinco de Meow. Share a few, and help spread the word!

Toys

When it comes to celebrating cat holidays, there are a few things you just can’t go wrong with. Toys are always a purrfect option. Look for a taco-shaped kitty toy for your feline pal. You can also get her a catnip cactus or sombrero.
