Choosing Cat Beds

Did you know that kitties can sleep up to 20 hours a day? Our feline friends certainly are tired! Therefore, it’s no surprise that one of the best (and easiest) ways to spoil Fluffy is to make sure that she has plenty of napping spots to rotate through for all of those naps. Here are a few tips from a local London, ON vet on choosing Fluffy’s beds.

You Can’t Have Too Many

Cats tend to cycle through favorite snoozing places. If you pay close attention, you may notice Fluffy moves from spot to spot throughout as her kitty schedule dictates. One week, your furball want to sleep on your bed. Then, the next week, you may find her in the linen closet. Keep things fun for your feline pal by adding new beds frequently.

Add Homemade Ones

Cats have a reputation for being finicky, but they actually aren’t very choosy about where they sleep. Offer your kitty some simple homemade beds. A soft blanket or towel folded up in a box or wicker basket will do nicely!

Offer Safe Spaces

Do you have a scaredy-cat for a pet? Offer Fluffy some enclosed beds or pet tents. Kitties tend to feel safe in small, enclosed areas, so your furry buddy will likely appreciate the refuge.

Expect The Unexpected

Our feline companions are full of curious—and often perplexing—quirks. Don’t be surprised if Fluffy ignores her plush new bed, and sleeps on a pizza box instead. There’s no accounting for taste!

Move Things Around

Sometimes Fluffy starts to think of things as part of the background, and forgets about them. Move your furry friend’s beds around to keep things fresh and fun for her.

Keep Them Clean

Wash your furry pal’s beds frequently. Check the label instructions, and if possible, use hot water and an unscented detergent. Then, dry on a hot cycle. This will help kill fleas and germs.

Help Fido Out

Kitties may be small, but they can be, well, a bit bossy. In fact, some of our feline patients bully their canine roommates around. Don’t be surprised if Fluffy takes over Fido’s bed, and then refuses to give it back. That’s just what cats do!
