Great Ways to Spoil Your Pet

Mark your calendars: February 20th is Love Your Pet Day! While we of course think pets should feel happy, loved, and pampered all the time, this is a great chance to give your furry best friend some extra TLC. A London, ON vet offers some suggestions for how to do that below.

Toys

Toys are great for pets: they keep Fluffy and Fido amused and occupied, keep them from getting bored, and promote healthy physical activity. Pick up a few new playthings for your frisky furball.

Treats

If there’s one thing that our animal companions enjoy, it’s snacks. Offer Fluffy a can of plain tuna in water; cooked, boneless meat, fish, or chicken; or a little bit of cat milk. Fido can have some shredded deli meat; a doggy biscuit; homemade snacks; or plain, cooked meat. Ask your vet for more recommendations.

Veterinary Care

Bringing your pet to the vet regularly is very important. Thorough exams allow your vet to monitor your furry friend’s overall health, and address any potential health issues. We also recommend that pets be microchipped, spayed or neutered, and kept current on all vaccines and parasite control products. Take a few minutes to make your next appointment.

Beds

Dogs spend about half of their time sleeping, and cats somehow manage to sleep even more than that: up to 16 hours a day. New beds always make great gifts for our sleepy buddies. If you have a tight budget, look online for great DIY ideas. You may be able to make your four-legged companion a great, comfy bed out of things you already have at home!

Spa Day

Just like people, dogs and cats often get stiff and sore with age. If your furry buddy is a senior, consider pampering them with pain management treatments. For instance, laser therapy can help pets with painful medical issues, like arthritis, feel better and move around more easily. Ask your vet for more information.

Quality Time

Fluffy and Fido are much more than furry, four-legged roommates: they’re loyal and loving friends, and important parts of our families. Spend some quality time with your pet. Play with your dog or cat, talk to them, and offer belly rubs and ear scritches.
