5 Ways to Keep Your Cat Safe in 2016

Are you starting out 2016 with a kitty in your household? Our feline friends are wonderful pets and companions, and certainly have a way of melting our hearts with those cute, furry faces, adorable meows, and hilarious quirks. We want to help you keep your pet happy, healthy, and safe for years to come! In honor of the new year, in this article, a London, ON vet offers advice on how to keep Fluffy safe and purring in 2016.

Keep Fluffy Indoors

Many of our feline friends like to roam about and explore their domains, but cats that are allowed outside are exposed to many dangers. Cars, other animals, predators, toxic chemicals, and weather are just a few of the things that endanger outdoor kitties. Keep Fluffy safe and sound inside.

Microchipping

The process of getting Fluffy microchipped is very quick and easy, but it could save her life! If your beloved pet is ever lost, that microchip could be the only thing linking her to you. If your kitty doesn’t have a microchip, ask your vet about getting this done as soon as possible. If your cat is already microchipped, take a few moments to check your records, and verify that they are correct.

Veterinary Care

Many of our feline patients don’t see us as often as they should! While we know visiting us isn’t exactly one of Fluffy’s favorite things to do, coming to see us is for her own good. Regular examinations and wellness care are very important to your kitty’s health!

Kittyproof

Cats certainly have quite a knack for getting themselves in trouble. Fluffy’s curious and playful streaks can put her in great danger! To keep your furball safe, do some kittyproofing: remove toxic plants, plastic bags, and any small items that could be choking hazards. Household chemicals and automotive products, such as antifreeze, are another major hazard. We also recommend securing wires and drape cords.

Parasite Control

Fleas and ticks can not only make Fluffy terribly itchy, they can transmit dangerous diseases. They can also infest your furball with other parasites. Make sure to keep up on Fluffy’s parasite control!

Happy New Year from all of us here at your London, ON veterinary hospital! We hope you have a wonderful year. We are ready to serve all your pet’s veterinary care needs in 2016 and beyond.
