Take Your Dog to Work Day

Did you know that Take Your Dog To Work Day is coming up? This year, Fido’s special day falls on June 24th. We wish we could take our canine buddies to work every day! In this article, a London, ON vet talks about this cute occasion.

Dogs With Jobs

Many of our canine friends go to work every day. In fact, Fido has been a working dog for thousands of years! In the early days of our friendship, our furry friends helped herd and protect our livestock. They also hunted with us, kept us company, and guarded our homes and families. Nowadays, Man’s Best Friend can also be found helping law enforcement, assisting in search and rescue operations, and working side-by-side with soldiers in military operations. Dogs have also proven invaluable as service dogs and therapy dogs.

Taking Fido To Work

Even if your workplace is dog-friendly, you should only bring Fido to work if he is well-behaved and friendly, and follows basic doggy obedience commands like Sit, Stay, Come, Heel, and Lay Down. For obvious reasons, you should leave your canine pal at home if he isn’t completely housetrained yet. It’s also important to make sure that Fido is microchipped, wearing ID tags, and is current on his parasite control and important vaccines.

Alternatives

We know, not all companies are onboard with taking pets to work. Even if Fido didn’t get ‘hired’ for a day on the job, you can still celebrate your canine buddy on this special day. Actually, many of our furry pals’ characteristics and philosophies can come in handy at the workplace. Dogs are friendly, honest, loyal, hard-working, all of which are great traits to incorporate into your work life and attitude. Another way to incorporate Fido into your workday is to display a cute photo of him on your desk.

After Work

When the day is over, pick up a special treat or a new toy for Fido. When you get home, indulge your four-legged buddy with a fun play session, or just enjoy some quiet time with him. Taking a long walk with your furry best friend is a great way to unwind after a long day!
